Our 1st Annual "Christmas Adopt a Smile Delivery Family Program" has been underway most of this month. A big thank you to every individual that has contributed to this program, which allowed 2 of our Smile Delivery families to be showered with many much needed items! A very special thank you to CAJUN VALVE, located in Port Allen, LA., for going above and beyond in their act of love and kindness, which brought much happiness to these special families! God bless you all!!!

Fall Festival Day in downtown Denham Springs. Smile Delivery Foundation had a booth set up by the Whistle Stop. We held 3 raffles with loads of Avon products, limited edition LSU items with a red wagon, and a fishing package!!! All three winners were drawn at the end of the day!!!

You may know, Our Lady of the Lake Children’s Hospital has a Subway on the 1st floor, open 24/7. This allows SDF parents to enjoy a healthy meal anytime of the day. We’d like to put a Subway gift card in each parent bag to help with meal expenses. We need your help achieving this important goal. Donate $20 and you will feed a family PLUS receive a SDF T-shirt in your size! Please help be a blessing to a SDF family. If you’ve ever had a sick child in the hospital, you know sometimes it can be challenging to grab a meal during cafeteria hours. Although we appreciate vending machines, but wouldn't you rather a healthy Subway meal, instead?

I believe The Smile Delivery Foundation located in Watson, Louisiana deserves the 1,000.00.
In September 2010 my daughter got very sick. I rushed her to the doctor with a spiked fever and trouble breathing. The doctor instructed me to take her to the hospital immediately, so I did. When we got there her breathing had gotten worse and her fever was higher, she was shaking and trying to cry but her throat was so swollen only squeaks were coming out. She had Croup a viral illness that causes the airways to swell and in her case her airways was swelling shut. During all this she had been brought to the ICU in which after breathing treatments and medications were failing, she was getting worse. The hospital doctor came up to us and said, “We need to put her on the ventilator before she crashes." I looked around confused was it really this bad? It took 3x the normal amount of sedative to put her in an induced coma to where they could get the tube down her throat and she could get the oxygen she was badly fighting for. We sat in that hospital for 7 days watching the machine breath for her as she laid there so still and quite like she was sleeping. I have never seen my little rambunctious daughter so still for so long. It was heart wrenching not being able to help her. Then on the 7th day of being there we were brought in a piece of paper and this paper had question as to what would make our child smile in this dark and trying time. I looked over the list of toys and circled a few things Emma would like when she woke up and then filled in the info of our address, number and family members. I handed that paper to the nurse without even thinking about it and returned back to my daughter’s side. Later that day we were told we were going to be able to wake her up and see if she could breathe on her own because we had gotten the clear that the swelling in her throat had went down enough for us to try. It was hard but they took her off the machines and there she was my little girl no more tubes. She was still sedated but we were one step closer to her being better. The following day she was able to wake up, she was not herself and was groggy and seemed real distant and quite staring off into the TV and we were informed it was normal. On that 9th day, a lady came in wearing a bright pink shirt holding three big goody bags. The first bag was for Emma in it was a toddler laptop, coloring books, crayons, a harmonica, Dora doll, A pink shirt, a Dora get well card and a beautiful bible with the name Emma Hope Robinson printed onto the bottom of it. The second bag was for me and her father it had shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, tooth brush and paste, a loofah and a book with inspirational quotes. The third was for our other daughter who during all this was staying at a relative’s house, and it had a couple toys and coloring books. I could not believe we had just been given all these really neat things and for the first time Emma was interested in something other than the TV she really wanted that Dora doll. Not only did this group of amazing people put a smile on my daughters face but they also thought about the parents and sibling of the sick child, they knew that we needed a pick me upper just as much as the patient. It was that act of kindness that made my day, as my daughter played with her toys with a smile on her face. I prayed and was truly thankful for the Smile Delivery Foundation and all their hard work.

We visited Aryanna and another young girl, today. Both young ladies received a large supply of art/draw supplies in a large pink case! As we have stated before, there are times when we will not mention a child’s name because of privacy issues. Even with getting the parents’ permission, a child’s last name will ALWAYS remain confidential.

We delivered a smile to Sarah at Our Lady of the Lake Children's Hospital! Brandon was also referred to us, but thankfully he was able to go home early. Brandon's big box of "smiles" were mailed out to him! Each child received some nice items from our gift option list, along with their t-shirt, name engraved Bible, and tote bag!!!

Smile Delivery Foundation was at Our Lady of the Lake Children's Hospital delivering smiles to Cody and Zavion! Some gifts were LEGO's, learning cards, a football, LSU sports cards, a beach towel, a t-shirt, tote bag, and a Bible with their name engraved! Cody's mom ask that you remember him in your prayers. He had a lengthy surgery today, and he was going to the PICU to be observed through the night. Also, please pray for Zavion and all other SDF children.

RunLife Foundation chose Smile Delivery Foundation!!! Four beginner triathletes are going to do the ultimate of all triathlons, the FORD IRONMAN! They will endure a 2.4 MILE SWIM down the Ohio River, a 112 MILE BIKE through the rolling hills of the Kentucky blue grass, and a 26.2 MILE RUN through the streets and surrounding towns of Louisville!

Mark Berger, with RunLife Foundation has organized a fundraiser at New Orleans Hamburger and Seafood on the Northshore on Sunday, August 15th and in New Orleans Monday, August 16. They will get 10% of the money spent both nights.
